Treating skin cancer

In case of conspicuous skin alterations biopsy samples are carried out. Afterwards, a histologic examination is carried out in order to guarantee the diagnosis. We remove malignant tumours completely during a surgical procedure within our surgery department.

In case of precursors of white skin cancer (actinic keratosis) as well as some forms of the basal cell carcinoma the so-called photodynamic therapy (PDT) is carried out. It is a successful and conservative tumour treatment and unnecessary scars (especially aesthetic areas such as face, décolleté and scalp) are avoided.

Malignant cells are sensitized against a range of rays by a chemical substance (ointment is applied). After a couple of hours the malignant skin alterations can be irradiated and destroyed by means of a special cold-light lamp.
